Charity Print Auctions for Haiti

I’ve just posted one of my photos on the Flickr group named Charity Print Auctions for Haiti. The idea is simple: anyone can put a photo in the group and people can bid on a print of it. The winner will pay the sum to a charity for Haiti and will get a print of the picture, sent by the photographer.

The rules from the group:

We want people to offer just one image to be printed as an art print.
Then invite people to bid in the comments. The highest bidder on the set date will win the auction and the print.
The photographer will pay for the print to be produced and postage to the winning bidder.
The winning bidder will go and donate their winning amount to the specified charity and take a screen grab of the confirmation of their donation and email to the photographer for proof that they’ve paid.

My new reflex: Nikon D3000

Nikon D3000

Finally, after long long time I was thinking to, I decided to buy a reflex camera: in the battle Canon vs. Nikon I decided to choose the second, since I had already a compact camera which made me very happy. My choice was the Nikon D3000: still have to learn how to manage the thousands features it offers, I am already happy by the quality of the camera – and the big difference from a compact one.

I’ve also made a set in Flickr called Photo Experiments where I will put some weird/nice/experimental shots. You can see the pictures below or take a look at my Flickr page to see more.

Flickr “Your best shot 2009„

I decided to post one of my photos in the Flickr group Your best shot 2009: I did hundreds of photos this year, but I like very much one of them in particular. I took it while I was in Shio Mghvime, a monastery in Georgia. Here is my shot:

Photo exhibition “sei volte nel caucaso georgiano”

Today I’ve been in Milano for a photo exhibition named “sei volte nel caucaso georgiano”: you can see there the photos taken by Vittorio Sportoletti Baduel during his three trips in the georgian caucasus in 2001, 2003 and 2008. Compared with them are some shots taken by Vittorio Sella, who was also three times there, but one century ago, in 1889, 1890 and 1896.

It’s really interesting to see how little have been the changes during these many years in those places: it looks like history has been freezed over those mountains, which in Baduel’s shots still keeps the same beauty they had one century ago.

There were the photographer and other guests today, first day of the exhibition, and they said interesting things: it’s incredible to think that Vittorio Sella could bring with him just 120 plates, which means he could take just 120 shots – madness nowadays with digital cameras. Baduel, however, talked about how hard was in 2001 and 2003 to go to those places, due to the hard situation and the presence of bandits in the zones – situation changed now – and said that, of all the places he visited, caucasus is the most beautiful.

The exhibition is hosted by the “Fondazione ENI Enrico Mattei” in corso Magenta 63, Milano and can be visited for free from 10am to 7pm until Friday April, 24th. I really suggest you to go and take a look to those photos.

“Pink is my new obsession„ were singing Aerosmith: and pink is the theme of the initiatinve Pink 2008 promoted by Flickr. Here’s the description of the group:

October is Breast Cancer Awareness month and if you add your pink photos to this group you can help to raise up to €30,000 for local charities.

For each pink photo you add to www.flickr.com/groups/pink2008, Yahoo! for Good will donate €1, up to a maximum of €30,000. We will split the total equally between 5 charities in UK, Germany, France, Spain and Italy.

My italian pasta on NowPublic

Time to lunch at home: pasta. Cool, I want it with tomato sauce, of course, but not everyone has the same taste: someone in my family prefer it with just a drop of oil; someone else, with pesto. Wow, that’s cool: green, white and red, the italian flag!

This was the result that day: few days later I received an email from NowPublic, a partecipatory news network, asking me the permission to use my photo for one of their stories; I agreed, and here’s the result.
